Show Your Work! by Austin Kleon. I’ve been flirting with the idea of reviving my blog for the past couple months. This is the book that convinced me to start again, not to share my “big ideas” and musings, but to primarily show all the work that goes into reading and writing and thinking about the Bible.
Chapter 7: Creation in Typology-Understanding the Bible’s Promise-Shaped Patterns by James Hamilton Jr. The chapter is a little misnamed. It’s not just about creation, but also how the theme of God’s dwelling with us is picked up in the tabernacle/temple, the church, and finally in the new heavens and new earth. I have an extra few weeks before I’m slated to teach Revelation 21-22, so instead of just compiling my notes on the text itself, I’m also taking the time to teach a full biblical theology of the temple. See also an excellent treatment of the Levitical cult in Who Shall Ascend the Mountain of the Lord by L. Michael Morales.
Eden, the Temple, and the Church’s Mission in the New Creation by G. K. Beale. I’ve worked through Beale’s arguments a couple times now in both A New Testament Biblical Theology: The Unfolding of the Old Testament in the New and The Temple and the Church’s Mission. Unfortunately, I’ve lost my notes on them. So to save myself a couple hours and a few hundred pages of reading, I just read his 2005 paper that was delivered to the Evangelical Theological Society.
Chapter 23: First Aorist Active/Middle in Basics of Biblical Greek by Bill Mounce. Second aorists were tough until I took the time to memorize all the verb endings. But first aorists were much easier for me, because this is the aorist form that I’ve learned in the past.
